NKYHatesHeroin.Com Is Proud to Announce the
2nd Annual NKYHatesHeroin.Com 5K Walk/Run
Last year NKYHatesHeroin.Com decided to hold a 5K Walk/Run to help us in our efforts to combat the heroin epidemic in the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati region. We were informed by many we had our work cut out for us and not to expect much out of a first year event. We were told by 5K planners to expect around 300-400 participants for our first year event. So we decided to move forward and plan the best 5K we could for committed first timers.
Our efforts paid off! The 2014 NKYHatesHeroin.Com 5K Walk/Run was an incredible success by any measure with just over 1,600 participants!
While it was clear to us in early 2014 Northern Kentucky was in a desperate situation with a growing heroin epidemic, the enthusiasm and community participation in our first 5K confirmed our communities are desperate for action. People need our help. Our communities need our help. Our very own friends and families need our help. NKYHatesHeroin.Com is committed to providing that help by fulfilling our mission:
Providing support and aid to those affected by addiction and their families. Partnering with our communities through awareness, resources and education for prevention.
The 2nd Annual NKYHatesHeroin.Com 5K Walk/Run will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the same location as last year’s run, on the campus of Simon Kenton High School – 11132 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Thanks to the Kenton County Board of Education for their cooperation with our 5K! Race start time will be 8:30AM.
While we are still in the planning stages, we know our 2nd Annual 5K will include a variety of things for both participants as well as friends and family members coming out to cheer on their runners and walkers including, free food and water for all and a DJ. Last year we had a memorial display which proved to be an inspiration to runners and walkers so we will again have a memorial wall for those who would like to share their photos and stories of those they have lost to addiction. There will also be a short service in memory of those that have lost their lives to addiction.
